Tigers win tight contest with CEB Braves, 58-52

Posted 2/04/13 (Mon)

The M-P Tigers defeated CEB on Jan. 29, 58-52.
The Tigers broke away from the Braves early, and by mid quarter had built a 10-3 lead. CEB cut the lead to four with a trey and after an exchange of a couple more treys CEB trimmed the lead to two, 13-11. M-P then went on a 10 point run sparked by back to back treys. CEB got a bucket late to pull within ten at the break, 23-13.
The Braves opened the second quarter with a three and then for almost three minutes there was a flurry of shots and turnovers but no scoring. With just under 4:00 to go in the half, M-P got back to back buckets to go up by eleven. That however was the only scoring they did until the final minute. Then they got another trey and a bucket off a put back. CEB put down a trey and a free shot at mid quarter and got another bucket late to stay within ten of the Tigers, 32-22.
As hot as the Tigers were in the first quarter they were cold in the third. They scored five early and then did nothing offensively until the final two minutes. Over that five minute stretch CEB dropped in 12 to take the lead, 38-37. At that point the Tigers put together an eight point run to go back up, 45-38, at the quarter stop.
CEB got the first three buckets of the fourth quarter, trimming the lead to one, 45-44, three minutes in. M-P finally got a couple of buckets to hang on to the lead but CEB kept it within three until the final 1:30. M-P put down a couple free shots to go up five and after a bucket by CEB sank two more to go back up five. CEB got up several tries in the final :30 but nothing fell and one more free shot by the Tigers at :03 assured the win, 58-52.
